Interesting topic Dj Christ-like...just sometime ago...me and some folks from Vincyland were having a similiar conversation...we were discussing the way of life in Vincyland and comparing it with our own experience in the US and we touched on how school kids in Vincyland can walk from home to school in relative safety compare to kids in America...where kids get abducted in a blink of an eye...back in the day I walked from top Mc kies Hill to Petersville school...and not a soul trouble me..well except for some other badass kids who use to kick my arse...lol..ah wonder where dem dey today...
I cannot be to judgemental on those folks who didn't react accordingly in that VIDEO; human nature is complex, you never really know how you will react in a moment of crisis. You may watch this video and say yeah I would have done this and that...but when you are confronted with a situation for real...I don't know, you may be surprise by your own reaction. I always remember the first time I got into a physical confrontation as an adult...never got into a fight with anyone before... some years ago...coming out in a crowd from russel cinema ...a guy feel up my woman's arse...I didn't see the guy...i just saw her reaction and then I saw this guy was laughing...she told me what he did...the first thought that entered my mind, was let it go...its no big deal...but the look on my woman's face told me..you better do something..or I am leaving your arse...so I run up to the guy...with no real intention of getting into a fight...but this fool was clearly looking for a fight...I said to the guy...thats not cool what you did...maan...before I could say another word..this fool push me in the chest and start cussing me...well that was it...I went jet li on this MF...the next thing you know...i open his head with a bottle and I ended up with 25 stitches in my stomach...I wasn't aware I got stabbed until after like a minute when people came in and part the fight...just in case Marilyn is reading this..you still owe me..lol....I say all this to make a point...you may think one way of dealing with a situation...but when the situation unfolds before your very eyes...you never really know how you going to react to something until that very moment...Even with this personal narrative; no one stepped into the fray until they saw BLOOD...me and this guy fought like a good fifteen minutes or so before anyone step in and there were a lot of folks standing there...what did the guy called it... BYSTANDER EFFECT..mm..
Yes, I would like to think that if I am in a situation where I saw a young girl being abducted...I would step in or do something to HELP...but you never know the circumstances on how that situation may unfold...suppose the kidnapper has a gun or something...or it happens so quickly that you may be second guessing yourself on what just happen.....the bottom line is ...too many variables at play to say DEFINITIVELY, what you will do in a particular situation...I am jus sayin...
People need to step in when it is right! I know it is hard to do because of the risk but How can a girl head get cut off in the middle of the bus terminal, not a police in sight, and the people them with gun, hand stick!
I have to admit, it hard to step in a situation and put your self at risk. But none d less, it is the best thing to do, God will bless you.
I am a very young man, but i was into a lot of drinking, partying and money waisting, now I am a christian, I try my best to think in the right way.
Many christians and non christians, basically state, I won't do this, if they don't do it for me, but whenever whatever happens to them, "them begging the world for help " and who answers?, is the most excuse you get from people. I don't work for much, but whenever asked, for money on the street, by whoever, I dip in me heart, not me pocket, in me heart and give it, Whether st vincent or canada.. And if me heart give lint, who can blame me !
" it might have sometime i don't have busfare, or sometime you want something to eat, one ah d best moment of my life is when I see a homeless or a druggie guy coming down with a coffee in he hand . You have to put youself in the people position, cuz people have it much worst. How people operate is basic, do this for me, and MOST LIKELY they will do it for you.. It makes me feel good considering I helped. Follow the law give and you shall recieve, it easy to give from the pocket, but it hard to give from the heart, because the pocket, gives to suit itself, but the heart gives or acts to benifit of the reciever"
No matter how I change, no matter how i try to adapt to being a christian, i am usuallt ALMOST ready to to intercede because WHATERVER GOOD YOU DO it will come back around, About 80 percent of the time when AND If I see I can help, i will but I usually find it much easier to hand over my paycheck than risk my life. i will not jump into a losing fight or into a losing battle. But if i see a girl or a guy getting beat up, my mind will CONSIDER and most likely get involved especially if a person is being victmized and there is a way for me to fight back and win that fight or cripple them so they wont comeback after me. However for whatever reason, pride in most cases the person in question does not want to stop, then i wish you all the best, hope you win, and hope that you don't die.
There are still good people out there in the world, but i must admit, it seems like there are far worst people out there in the world. They will rather watch a man get kill, than prevent his death. Which one is more admirable?
For the guy with the russel cinema story. Sorry to hear that you got stab, However the blatancy of the vincentian youth men never cease to anger me, especially the seeps they give my woman, Infront of my face in kingstown. Such disrespect! I do literally feel like ripping there heads of their bodies, and almost immediatly start thinking of wicked scenarios of disciplining them, like leaving them, allowing them their foolish joy, and then hijacking them, tie them to a wall and notoriously beat them.
I usually fall to the mercy of God asan evil spirit takes me over as it knows that I am a weak man in this respect. The spirit knows I won't survive in jail because of my good looks, and when it comes to my wife I am realestic but very protective of what God has entrusted me iwth. These guys who can't keep them hands to them selves i must reinterate, They Anger me! These guys feel like they are some type of " badman" and they get kicks of out it, because of their freinds AND WHATEVER KITCHEN knife they carrying or the power of their gun!
I don't know the cure for these men, but i will try my best to raise my children(when they come), not to be influenced by this foolishness, and if the young man, still does this foolishness, I would lead him to the bananna feild and give him a good spanking where neigbours can't hear, or dasheen feild for that matter!
Shopkeeper...as a Christian...remind me not to"cuss" you...lol...
Well said bro...I can appreciate what you are saying...I think most folks try to do GOOD...but as usual you always have some heartless souls out there...always looking out for themselves....I am no saint, but I try to volunteer at my kid's School or as a soccer coach when time permits to do so...and I wish when ah was living at home...ah had that AWARENES to do more in terms of volunteering...but I did try to rectify that...on my last three trips back home I did some volunteering teaching at my ALMA MATER...and help out at some soccer clinics...and yeah climb a couple mango trees and plum trees for a friend of my Mom... In America, volunteerism is a big thing and so you get lots of oppurtunity to do some good...In Vincyland, you never really get that oppurtunity to do volunteer work on a regular basis, unless you are associated with some church, at least thats just my view...maybe there are other places who encourage the practice...yeah it feels real GOOD to do things for folks in need...I am not sure what is the situation at home in terms of Volunteering at the moment...but I suspect ..more than likely its not as popular as one may want it to be...Now speaking of giving people on the street small change...I have had some NOTso nice experience with vagrants...on three occassions..I got into a verbal spat with individuals who I gave money to several times...then I notice it became a sort of obligatory undertaking on my part to give these folks money...so when it became an annoyance;and refuse to give them any money... I was verbally abused and called various names of a certain part of the female anatomy...one of those individuals happen to be the infamous BLAKIE...Blakie cuss me out and spat at me...luckily for me, it landed short of the mark...so sometimes GIVING IS NOT always a GOOD thing..lol...
I want to add to the point that you made about that incident at Little Tokoyo...When I heard of the lady who got beheaded ..the first thought that came to my mind...how can such a thing happen in broad daylight in such a busy area and nobody did anything...IN VINCYLAND?...then I thought for awhile and figured people had to be genuinely too scared to intercede on the lady's behalf...it was most unfortunate...AND to not have any POLICE OFFICER IN THE VICINITY WAS UNFORGIVABLE...you will think of all places in Kingstown to see a police officer will be at the bus terminal...As for those "bad boys"...well there will always be arseholes around and I will tell you as a man who experience that seeping thing in Vincyland..you can't make those things get you angry...I had a group of guys who I used to hang with and we had this "philosophy" about guys seeping our women...our position was..If we are walking down the road with our respective woman...and we pass a group of guys on the block and they DIDN'T SEEP OR MAKE SOME COMMENT ABOUT OUR WOMAN...we were of the view that something MUST BE WRONG WITH HER!!...I know, its some messed up logic...but that was how we use to think...and to be honest...I still subscribe to such "philosophy"...so bro, the next time..a guy seep your woman..just smile, knowing you got it LOCKED...lol
.Shopkeeper..you say that people must step in when its "RIGHT"...but as I stated in my previous post, I AM NOT SURE IT IS THAT SIMPLE...and I make the case that., you never really KNOW HOW YOU WILL REACT IN THE MOMENT YOU ARE CONFRONTED WITH A SITUATION...yes, we ALL want to do the "right" thing...and hope to do so when face with a given situation...but laawd knows..we only can HOPE...
I think in a place like Vincyland; I think the POLICE needs to do a BETTER JOB of public relations...they need to gain the confidence of the public instead of their derison...all of this criminal activities could be reduced with the HELP of the public...but there is no real OUT REACH PROGRAM from the POLICE...sometimges, I am not sure who exactly they are PROTECTING AND SERVING. I listened to the Commissioner of Police some time ago and you realise why crime is rampant in Vincyland..he sounds CLUELESS...but then again..you can't blame him...OUR PRIME MINISTER his happy with him at the helm...and I guess thats what matter...WE CAN DO BETTER...
Shopkeeper..I would luv dearly to touch on every point you made in your post, but there is no real need to.... your point of views are well taken...ah hope you stick around for awhile and give the forum more of your refreshing insights.
