Alba's socialism for SVG exposed

Published on Thursday, May 6, 2010

Dear Sir:

All I showed Vincentians before about the socialists’ revolution plans is now being boldly confessed by them. During the referendum I pointed out three dangers:

The refusal to put back a phrase in the draft preamble of the new constitution which strengthened its philosophical underpinnings- a phrase that declared that man has inalienable/ God-given rights and freedoms which governments must only protect.

That adequate compensation for acquired property must be defined as including current market value.

That the constitution’s entrenchment must remain as is, not weakening it by decreasing the percentage of votes to change it in future, from 67% to 60%. Refusal to embrace these 3 truths had negative implications for the future protection of inalienable rights and freedoms of Vincentians and I praise God the people voted NO on November 25, 2009.

It was argued that there is only one right which is inalienable-the right to life. Therefore the phrase we called for was rejected because it listed the right to private property as one of the inalienable rights. Lack of due sacred regard for the private property right was displayed when despite calls from the people and feverish discussion on the point of the bill, the powers that be still refused to describe adequate compensation as including off or no less than current market value.

They also failed to appreciate Vincentians’ concern that reduction of entrenchment of the constitution would weaken it and weaken protection for fundamental rights and freedoms laid out therein. The contempt and gross disregard of the people’s voice was evident, even more so after 56% of us voted NO, when our leader said “history will damn” us and that we were not on the right side of history etc.

Back then I showed you how these things mirrored Socialism, Communism, Gramscism, Leninism, Stalinism, Marxism- all are one and the same. They have in common the disbelief in the inalienability of the rights and freedoms of man. Instead, they believe that rights come from human consciousness and can therefore be given by human legislation, the will of the majority or by some idea of “nature”. They do not believe rights come from God.

This leads to a less than sacred regard in the minds of leaders who hold to such ideologies of governance, feeling they can abuse rights at will, giving lying excuses such as interest in classless society and protection of the welfare of all.

Some of the topics I covered for you here were, “The Chavezisation of our Country”, “Inalienable Rights vs Communism”, “Constitution Referendum Rush”, “Contempt for the People” and “ALBA & Gonsalves Socialist Revolution Rejected”. Many bashed us/me exclaiming that there were no communist/socialist plans for SVG.

Now, two weeks ago, almost 6 months post referendum we hear ALBA (including SVG) confess that it will “consolidate their integration and sovereignty in the interest of constructing the road to socialism”. They have further ratified their objectives in a signed document called “Bicentennial Manifesto of Caracas: Consolidating the New Independence”.

In this document ALBA leaders affirm the need to liberate themselves “...from foreign interventionism and submission to imperial mandates”. No wonder, our prime minister is reported as calling for us to “...fight against colonialism and imperialism in whatever form they might take...” Even Hugo Chavez is caught!

You see, in an article of March 2010 called “Queen Elizabeth II should relinquish power over St Vincent and the Grenadines” Patrick J. O’Donoghue reports that “Chavez criticized those on the island running the anti-republic referendum campaign for presenting him as a bogeyman and confusing voters by claiming that Chavez supported the republican initiative as a means of expanding Venezuela’s influence in the Caribbean.”

Yet the same Chavez leads to “advance toward socialism”, a call which, to our dismay, has been answered on our behalf by our Prime Minister, with no regard for the fact that we rejected this on November 25, 2009.

Yes, we rejected Chavez’ forward move to socialism in the referendum. Hear Chavez confess it himself in the same article calling upon the Queen to give us full independence: “Despite the referendum results, Chavez is of the opinion that Queen Elizabeth should grant full independence after Gonsalves attempted to “light up the way forward” for his country eliminating “remnants of colonialism and in the interest of humanization”.

The way Gonsalves attempted to light up forward is the same “road to socialism” declared to being constructed at their recent ALBA summit. My God! Look at what we stopped from coming upon us! Had the constitution bill passed, it means we would have been legally bound to provisions which covertly facilitate SVG’s trod down the socialism road.

No wonder Chavez, “lamented the fact that a constitutional amendment proposed by Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves had been rejected in a referendum on November 25, 2009”. And even after the results he dares to call upon the Queen to let us go, a thing which cannot be done without a legal change in the Constitution- a change the people refused. How disrespectful of Chavez! 56% NO votes upset his socialist revolution plans and, true to socialists contemptuous attitude towards people’s choice, he criticized the vote NO campaign personnel for it.

So what’s next? We must pay careful attention to the legislative program of the ULP administration in the next few months leading up to the general elections. Seeing SVG is still advancing toward socialism as an ALBA member, one wonders how we will achieve the projects of ALBA without the legislative backing the constitution bill 2009 would have given, if passed.

Scrutinize well the ULP’s manifesto also-see if it facilitates the Bicentennial manifesto of Caracas, ratified by ALBA. Vigilance is key! Meanwhile, all who voted NO must be congratulated. We saved our country and while the socialists mourn we rejoice because we want no socialism here. In SVG, “Everybody wants free-ee-dom, everybody wants free-ee-dom. Freedom of thought, freedom to talk. Everybody wants free-ee-dom; everybody wants free-eedom, Freedom of Speech, freedom to teach”. I love you all and may God help us in times ahead.
