Just wanted to know if anyones thinks that it's about time artists and producers in vincy get compensated in the form of royalties, for the hard work they put into productions and marketing of their music?

yea i second you Alan, they could start by having a music awards
all of that, and people need to start calling in and requesting more local music.
As a producer, i think royalty collection should have already been in effect along time ago but not to worry it's been worked on. I've already received a letter from PRS about this issue.
cool that's good to know cause it's about time.
yeah i think more emphasis needs to be placed on our local artists.....a music award is also a way to boost and encourage our artists...showing them that we love and appreciate the hard work they do...in doin this new comers will work hard so show there tru skills.....in this way everyone is a tru winner cause the real talent inside shall shine out
yea i just looked at the grammy awards lastnight, and i thought to myself the U.S is honoring their artist for their efforts, so why don't we, i mean we focus on stuff like bluesfest, and bringing outside artist in for show like that while our local artist are left to their own devices.
the thing is, i am not saying to put only local artist on the bluesfest show. i am saying we need to have an anual award show for our local artists, as a way of giving back to them for their contribution to music locally, which you have second so i see we are on the same page with that. now, as to royalties i know we can't stop bootlegging but we do have radio stations, i think it's about time the ministry responsable for comunication put something inplace for all music that all stations play to be logged, that way if we really do have a copyright system underway as i am hearing then, the music that's played by all radio station will have to be monitored monthly that way what ever rate per play is inforced that money will be paid to the copyright agency and then forwarded to the relivant artists.
This is what i think, although we all love local acts, i don't think it hurts to have foreign artiste, the same way that we ourselves would love to be in there shows. Look, Lionel Richie goes to barbados to perform in bluesfest. NOW, forget the award ceremony for awhile. First, what we need to do is to embrass our own alittle more. Producers and artiste here spend alot of time in the studio put alot of effort into there work just to get a negative response from the public and even the radio stations.. It is true that some productions aren't the best and we need to be up to standard but still embrass us at least 50% airplay... What you think..OOOh and don't worry the radio stations would be paying royalties soon, give it some more time,
Enough of the long talk - If Alan (Shady) sees it fit local acts be compensated albeit through an Award Show of the sort, then, here is where I say 'take the initiative and try produce one on your own by any means possible', before you make an entity like say a 'Ministry of Culture a.k.a. Government get a sniff, take it over or continue to dictate the way artistes are treated. Now we wouldn't want that now, would we ?
....yadda start somewhere, somehow me boy - they not gon' do it for you.
i agree that we need to start some where, but i think the effort should be collective and not individual, and i do agree aswell that we shouldn't wait on the government, cause we all know how long an drawn out that can be.
I think they need it, it would boost their confidence and make them feel good for all the work they put into it.
i know some producers already get royalties but as for the artists idk if they're gettin em but deh definitely shud!
