Vincy Mas 2009, What are you expecting & what would u like to see change to make it better

For me I love carnival, just the feeling of it. The things I would like to see change
1. When masqueraders have to push the so-called spectators out of the way when its their time to be in the streets.
2. The shows has to be closed down by 2:00 am, how could we be pushing Carnival as a tourist attraction and closing down the shows so early.
3. Carnival Tuesday: the trucks have to come off the road at 10:00 pm.

Its now March & the posters are out for carnival. I would like to see in the coming months, what would be done in terms of the best summer festival in Vincy.

Not meaning to sound pessimistic, but apart from 'Mas Sections' pulled out from 'Carival night', I personally do not expect anything else to change significantly that can affect the way Carnival will be handled in St.Vincent....Vincy people on a whole will perpetually have this "last-minute mentality" and are too afraid to be more innovative!

> same sh*t, different year - just you watch and see......to be cont'd.
I totally agree but I'm still waiting to see what would happen
As a Vincy living away, here is my 2-cents.......

Yes I do agree, there needs to be better security within the bands for the revellers who PAID $$$ to play mas. Perhaps HOT97 can do public service announcements and advise the general public to be discipline and refrain from storming among the costume wearers. There is nothing wrong with taking a jump on the side or well back of the revellers. How would you feel if you paid $$$ to do something and your are prevented from doing so. I can tell you that over the years, some Mas Camps/Bands use this as a marketing edge - by letting you know that they'll have increased security on the road. I don't think Vincy Mas has grown to that level as yet, but it's getting there.

I've seen this handled most effectively in Trinidad, Brooklyn and Toronto; they actually have uniformed security and volunteers holding either double ropes or mesh plastic fences around the people in costume. THey even go as far as escorting stormers OUT of the band too. Keep in mind that the general public in Trinidad is far to discipline for this to be an issue.

Regardless to what end time is choosen or agreed to, there will always be some that want to continue partying. Keep in mind that Wednesday is a regular 'open for business' day in SVG. Don't feel so bad, this is an issue anywhere there is carnival of this magnitude, trust me.

Carnival Vincy
Well now that's it over I could state the my like and dislikes. Soca Monarch was great from start to finish, the hosts did a lil too much talking. All the artiste performed good even the new comers put on a good show, the only thing I dnt like was a man that saw my friends & I jumping, dancing & enjoying ourselves but still find it fit to stand behind us & then had the heart to tell us that we're jumping on him. If you dnt want anybody steppin on your toes, go in the stands to sit down, that's simple enough & they have 2 big screens so those people will be able to see.

Secondly, jouvert was ok, it had the usually attractions but I wish the jouvert bands could advertise what they're actually offering to people that paid to get certain things e.g. more than 1 type of drink. RJR usually give drinks stubs but they dnt advertise that it was only for rum & coke & u had to buy Carib & some other beer if you wanted it. It was only when persons started to complain, they began taking stubs for the beer.

Carnival Monday, thank god sun was shining and no rain came for that. I played with CDC & Lotto band, now I was pissed with them because it seems like they sold 100 or more shirts and ordered 50 bottles and if you dnt get a bottle it was hard to get a free drink & I thought that was shit, they should order the same number of shirts & bottles & they were saying that they dnt have a drink but yet you were seeing other ppl receiving the same drinks they told you they dnt have.

Carnival Tuesday was great for me, I played with Players & they actually had security and the guys from the mas tent made sure that nobody was jumping in the band & I must commend them for that & that made me want to play with them every year, so this year I got to make an good round with the band.
