Why do LIME refuse to accept that there is a conflict of interest between sponsoring carnival competitions as well as individuals competing in those same competitions?

For the last few years LIME refuse to acknowledge that there is a huge potential for a conflict of interests in their sponsorship of competitions like Soca Monarch as well as competitors within those same competitions. I cannot find in any other field of competition, particularly one that is as subjective as these are, that the principle sponsor could also field competitors that they individually sponsor without an outcry.

We have had for the last 2 months the LIME Soca Dans/Dons being featured in every aspect of carnival at the behest of LIME, who as the major sponsor of carnival, open the doors to all and every aspect of the festival including every rural carnival as well as all of CDCs events including guest spots on the same said competitions. The exposure they have gained from this is enormous and going into the competitive aspect of the festival surely gives them a huge advantage over those competitors who have not benefited from LIME's largesse.

On top of this there is the unstated, unquantifiable influence that a principle sponsor exerts on the recipient of sponsorship that causes that recipient to want to display gratitude, appreciation, etc.

I think it is in the interests of everybody for the CDC to outlaw this type of deal and force sponsors to choose either or. Ultimately the sponsors will benefit because there will be no doubts about outcomes and their public image will be protected, the festival will benefit because all competitors will PERCEIVE the results to be untinged by a sponsors hand and therefore more willing to compete.

What do you think?

Who is hot97 to comment on such a issue,Hot 97 don't have the moral authority to speak on such,Greg Auto rental was sponsoring for many years a program on the station low and behold a morning while the Manager was listening another sponsor was given the spot without proper explanation,Because Karib Kable run a lot of ADs on the station 2 Kool Chris dont want to debate anything with them, look at the issue at hand with the box and the proposed raise,2 kool who speaks on all topic afraid to touch this one,He promise us last week that Monday he will be debating the much talk about Tug Boat issue, this morning he bashing competition when he wasn't even there to hear for himself, each one will have their different opinion where judging is concerned,so hot 97 wheel and come again.Colin The Hitman I know you are the web manager on the station but the above writing is definitely not yours did Luke write this and give you to post? Why was the Soca Dans not on Wet Fete? Why Is Skinny Not On Fire Fete? And Please Note Hitman and too kool 2nd runner up in a competition means third place I hear both of you on numerous Occasion speaking as if its 2nd...NUFF SAID...I am waiting for the BASHING....
U seem to be missing the point. The question is "Is there a conflict of interest between sponsoring a competition and also sponsoring a competitor in the competition?" not what greg auto rental doing or how much for karib cables service or even the tug issue, all of which you are free to discuss.

U also seem to be a little out of the loop - lime soca dans are not allowed to perform at any digicel sponsored event and skinny's absence from fire fete is due to something between the promoter and fees and possibly one of the sponsors of the show.
WAS THERE A PROBLEM LAST YEAR AND THE YEAR BEOFRE WHEN SKINNY WON THE SOCA MONARCH COMPETITION????? WAS LIME NOT THE SPONSOR FOR THE CARNIVAL THOSE YEARS?????? DOYOU THINK THAT LIMEIS INFLUENCING THE JUDGING?????? IS THAT WHERE THIS IS HEADED??? BECAUSE IT DIDN'T LOOK LIKE IT THE LAST COUPLE YEARS
The question is not whether they have influenced the results just that the conflict of interests potentially exist. They are clearly pushing their sponsored artists to the fore way and above the exposure most other artists are receiving, I am not suggesting that they are deliberately influencing the judges or cdc but sometimes these things are subliminal. As originally posited what other area of competition do we see where this dynamic takes place. I think it neither benefits the individual artists or LIME to be stuck in this predicament. Yes we should all congratulate LIME for their massive investment in local culture and their consistent support of carnival where others have shied away but it should not cloud our ability to look ahead and avoid future conflicts or pitfalls.
YOU MEAN LIKE THE WAY YOU WERE PUSHING SKINNY AND PROBLEM CHILD LAST YEAR ABOVE ANY OTHER ARTIST???????
THEY HAVE STEPPED UP AS A MAJOR SPONSOR......YOU HAVE NEVER DONE THAT AND I CAN BET YOU RIGHT AFTER CARNIVAL TUESDAY YOU WON'T BE PLAYING ANY SOCA MUSIC ANY WAY.
THIS THREAD WAS POSTED BECAUSE YOU ARE AT WAR WITH LIME RIGHT NOW.....CASE CLOSED!!!!!!!!!!
Hot97 pushing Skinny was in response to the blatant bias that had been happening for years, with Hitz FM being the principle promoter of the show, repeatedly endorsing Fireman Hooper. And unlike LIME Hot97 had no connection or relation to the CDC or the competition itself.

Why will none of you answer the original premise that there is a conflict of interest.
Judging in all aspects of vincy carnival has always been influenced by parties with their own personal agenda.. whether is personal or business so i won't be surprised at all.. as far as not talking out against a sponsor.. media outlets have been know to protect their income source so good luck on some announcer speaking out against a main sponsor.
Is this the same Colin from Hot 97? I never heard more Hog Wash from someone who is supposed to be educated. I was at the show and it could have gone either way, Fireman or Galaneer. Fireman delivered his song much better as he sang every verse and chorus before he can do any antics, I think that is what give him the edge. To read the next day on Facebook, Colin calling the Soca Dans "BULL SHIT STARS", only goes to show how much these 97 guys hate Soca Dans. Fireman did not judge himself, so why degrade him like that Colin?
There are so many companies in this country that makes millions off carnival, how many of them putting back something into it? LIME is doing that and before these 97 bastards commend LIME, they on air and Facebook bashing LIME.
Good point Andy, who sponsored Carnival when the same Skinny Fabulous and Problem Child, who Hot 97 was pushing over all other artists, won Soca Monarch and Road March? Colin I expected better from you, I am a Skinny fan and this year am a Luta fan as well but your argument makes no sense and only a fool will support this stupid argument.
I can remember LIME coming in for reaL BLOWS from 97 when the whole Soca Dans thing blew up 2 years ago and I always wonder why LIME is still advertising on this station. If LIME was my business I would have dissasociated myself from that station totally. You can't lambast the people that spending money with you over your own silly perception. COLIN YOU ARE NOT SMART AT ALL
Yes we commend LIME for their support of Carnival and yes Colin was wrong to make disparaging remarks about the Soca Dans. I suspect he was angry and unfortunately directed his anger at the artists rather than the system. The Soca dans are as much a victim of this system as anyone else, however, as usual nobody wants to discuss the system just the consequences of it. Why does nobody want to address the real question.
well this is the problem.. just because you are a dj doesn't give you the communication skills to educate the general public. A lot of these so call commentators are DJs, nothing else thats all. Getting into constructive criticism is another.. I think they should should stick to playing music and let capable persons educate the public.
CHECKIN, 100000000000000% AGREE WITH U.
Andy I agree with you 100%,You see Hot97 is like a big baby who like to cry when they don't get things the way they want. Colin how can you call the guys bullshit stars? Is that the sentiments of your station? I think its better if you put your mouth on mute because the more you talk the more we see who you really are.HOT 97 the bacchanal station like to pull down people too much.
