Why do LIME refuse to accept that there is a conflict of interest between sponsoring carnival competitions as well as individuals competing in those same competitions?

For the last few years LIME refuse to acknowledge that there is a huge potential for a conflict of interests in their sponsorship of competitions like Soca Monarch as well as competitors within those same competitions. I cannot find in any other field of competition, particularly one that is as subjective as these are, that the principle sponsor could also field competitors that they individually sponsor without an outcry.

We have had for the last 2 months the LIME Soca Dans/Dons being featured in every aspect of carnival at the behest of LIME, who as the major sponsor of carnival, open the doors to all and every aspect of the festival including every rural carnival as well as all of CDCs events including guest spots on the same said competitions. The exposure they have gained from this is enormous and going into the competitive aspect of the festival surely gives them a huge advantage over those competitors who have not benefited from LIME's largesse.

On top of this there is the unstated, unquantifiable influence that a principle sponsor exerts on the recipient of sponsorship that causes that recipient to want to display gratitude, appreciation, etc.

I think it is in the interests of everybody for the CDC to outlaw this type of deal and force sponsors to choose either or. Ultimately the sponsors will benefit because there will be no doubts about outcomes and their public image will be protected, the festival will benefit because all competitors will PERCEIVE the results to be untinged by a sponsors hand and therefore more willing to compete.

What do you think?

i join the forum because i seeyou guys are very bias , i wish i was employee of Hot 97 ... its better if you reply to my statements than who i am ..
The Ragga Soca competition is listed as the National Lotteries Ragga Soca Monarch competition on CDC's website. There is no mention of LIME.
Typical response when you unable to defend your position. Come on Vincy address the issue.
@Hot97SVG..... There is definitely somethin in the mortar besides the pestle.. But there's nothing we can do about it unless artistes take a stand... And I guess everyone has given up on the thought... So... This is what we have to deal with...
As regards the rest of these ppl who are debating everything EXCEPT the ISSUE AT HAND... I agree... It is TYPICAL... smh...
This IS conflict of interest, no matter what "underlying motive" or view point you guys come from. Y'all bringing up sponsorship of carnival and who gonna sponsor and stuff that happened in the past, that is far from the point. Just answer the question, yes or no and why you think so. Don't just bash Hot97 or the people who agree and don't bash LIME. This is a discussion that needs a mature frame of mind, so take out all the arguing and all that crap for once.
SHIDA, did you AGREE with HOT 97's practice of PLAYING ONLY CERTAIN ARTISTS' SONGS to the POINT where these SONGS/ARTISTS became the LEADING CANDIDATES to WIN the SOCA MONARCH and ROAD MARCH TITLES because that were all the LISTENERS heard being played on HEAVY ROTATION by the deejays?

Do you BELIEVE there is a CONFLICT of INTEREST there when HOT 97 ADAPTS that KIND of POSITION and PRACTICE?
I'm not saying it's correct but it is conflict of interest, think of it this way. You're being sued, the plaintiff is best friend with one of the jurors, providing there is a jury, who could influence the others, and the plaintiff is besties with the judge. Guess what happens then?
Shida, so basically you're saying that when HOT 97 BOMBARDED the AIRWAVES with SONGS from ARTISTS that they FAVORED and PROMOTED, then there was most DEFINITELY a CONFLICT of INTEREST there, because it was not FAIR to the OTHER ARTISTS, especially the ones that were BANNED from their AIRWAVES?
yup but you didn't answer my question either
In many ways Vincy Mas is now a plaything for many of the components involved. The sponsors and sponsorship come with conditions - the radio stations only play some people's music and the love of the festival has now become a thing of the past. LIME is at fault because they seem to want to dictate the entire carnival scene with their artistes, not even realizing that they are doing them an injustice, because just like everything else - too much of one thing is good for nothing - there is an overdose of Vincy Soca Dans for the carnival so they just get boring AND their attitude leaves much to be desired.
HOT 97 is not blameless by any stretch of the imagination, they have picked their golden boys and have given the listening public a steady diet of Skinny and Problem - thus giving us a headache 24/7. The outcome is the same - too much of one thing (I know that I will be told that I don't have to listen to Hot97 - :))
Until everyone is given a fair chance and these games stop we will always have problems.
I have to agree with a lot of people on this forum when they say that they cannot understand how Fireman won Ragga Soca Monarch because I honestly thought that his song was a baptist folksong, I was at the show and never had him as a contender for the crown. Maybe the suspicion of LIME come back to the Miss SVG/envelope fiasco. If what is happening now continues we will have 3 people in every show and soca monarch will end up half hour long - 10 minutes for Fireman, Skinny and Problem respectively. I really wish that some dark house comes on Saturday night knocks it for six and NONE of these guys win, thus changing the landscape once again, but alas I fraid that this will never happen. Because in SVG it seems as if justice cannot even appear to be done.
With that said I still want to wish everyone a safe and happy carnival.
LEONA THAT WAS AN EXCELLENT POST AND I WAS THINKING THE SAME THING JUST TODAY.......IT HAS COME DOWN TO THIS FOR OUR CARNIVAL, WHAT A SHAME!!!!!!!! MONEY MONEY AND MORE MONEY IS THE ORDER OF THE DAY. IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH CULTURE ANY MORE. OUR BIGEST SHOWS ARE NOW THE SOCA MONARCH SHOWS, FIRE FETE, AND WET FETE. AND LIKE YOU CORRECTLY SAID WE HAVE NARROWED IT DOWN TO TWO OR THREE ARTISTS.......ITS A SHAME...... LETS FACE IT AS IT STANDS RIGHT NOW THE SOCA MONARCH IS BETWEEN FIREMAN, SKINNY AND MAYBE PROBLEM CHILD. AND ALTHOUGH I THINK ICON HAS A GREAT SONG, HE'S LEFT IN THE COLD WITH ALL THE LIME HOT97 MALAY. I'VE SAID IT BEFORE AND I'LL SAY IT AGAIN, THERE IS NO QUICK SONG OUT OF SVG THIS YEAR THAN SALTFISH AND ITS A DAMN SHAME THAT ITS ONLY PLAYED ONCE EVERY FOUR HOURS. AND NOW, NOT OLNY DO I HAVE TO LISTEN TO CHARGE EVERY HALF HOUR, I NOW HAVE TO LISTEN TO THE REMIX WITH MACHEL MONTANO, WHO IMIGHT ADD ONLY CONTRIBUTED A HALF OF LINE TO THE SONG......BUT THEY ARE CALLING IT A REMIX. THEY KNOW BEST I GUESS.
ONCE AGAIN HOT 97 AND LIME HAS SOME MANAGED TOMAKE THEMSELVES BIGGER THAN THE FESTIVAL. AFTER THIS CARNIVAL IS DONE, ONLY A FEW PEOPLE WILL REMEMBER WHO WON PANORAMMA OR KING AND QUEEN OF THE BAND, HECK DOES ANYONE EVEN KNOW THAT PORSER IS CELEBRATING HIS 30TH YEAR IN THE BUSINESS???????? NO ONE GIVES A DAMN ABOUT THAT. NO ONE CARES THAT HOTTSAND IS ONE OF THE BEST BANDS IN THE CARIBBEAN, AND THAT THEY PROBABLY ONLY LOOK UP TO KROSFYAH. BUT WE WILL REMEMBER THE LIME HOT97 FUED FROM THE 2010 CARNIVAL AND THAT'S REALLY SAD!!!!! I STILL REMEMBER PAPA DAS AND SHAUNELLE WINNING JUNIOR MONARCHS BACK IN THE DAY, CAN ANYONE TELL ME WHO WON THE JUNIOR'S CROWN THIS YEAR???????? ANYONE OUTSIDE THE KIDS IMMEDIATE FAMILY?????????
NEXT YEAR'S SLOGAN HOT97 VS LIME....WINNER TAKES ALL............THIS IS TRULY SAD
HAPPY CARNIVAL ALL...........WHAT'S LEFT OF IT
Andy, after LEONA'S DECENT POST you came with a BUNCH of HOGWASH about HOTTSAND this and SALTFISH this.

Yuh MUSSE VEX that you will have to EAT your WORDS about CHARGE? LOL LOL LOL

DO not think that I HAVE FORGOTTEN. I just LAYING LOW until the OPPORTUNE time. Now see if you can REFOCUS on the TOPIC at hand.
