Prominent Dancehall superstar, Popcaan continues to assert his dominance on the international scene as he was recently featured in one of the United States’ major publications.

The self-professed ‘Gaza Prefect’ was featured in the music section of the highly regarded U.S. newspaper, the New York Times this past weekend. The piece reviews his chart-topping hit single, Only Man She Want, which copped a top 100 sport on Billboard’s R&B/Hip-Hop charts late last month.

The feature waxed poetic about the growing crossover impact that Only Man She Want has received since its release last August.

"As ever, dancehall songs take several months to crawl up from Jamaica and infiltrate the American consciousness. Popcaan's Only Man She Want now experiencing its crossover moment, is already months old, but its sweetness hasn't faded," the article reads.

"It's a syrupy love song, and Popcaan has a smooth voice with a hint of shrillness, and a casual manner, never over singing the sentiment.”

The feature also talks about Popcaan’s sophomore mixtape, Yiy Change which has garnered lots of buzz in Dancehall circles and showcases many of the Portmore Empire deejay’s biggest tracks.

“Only Man She Wantis buried deep on 'Yiy Change', the new mixtape by Popcaan (available at popcaanmusic.com), more of an afterthought than an advertisement. Maybe that's because there's much better material here: the lazy roots-reggae toast Weedy, the bawdy come-on Back It Up, the bruising Nuh Box Pon Jaw, and remixes of older hits like Ravin', delivered here over the guttural beat from Tyga's Rack City. This latest feature continues a consistent run of form from Popcaan in 2012 as he recently released hit singles such as Fry Yiy for UIM Records and Step Like Dead featuring fellow Portmore Empire deejay, Tommy Lee.
